The Mitsubishi Adelaide International Horse Trials has a proud and prestigious history of achievement which spans more than 40 years.
This international event was born from the South Australian township of Gawler,
40 kilometers north of Adelaide in 1959.
Because of its success Gawler was chosen as the site of the World Three Day Event Championship in 1986.
Through the efforts of the South Australian Government and its events division, Australian Major Events, the inaugural horse trials was staged at Victoria Park and the East Parklands in November 1997.
The event is managed by Adelaide Horse Trials Management Inc.
The event has once again been endorsed by the world equestrian body, Federation Equestre Internationale, as a four star event. This status positions Adelaide as the only three day event of this calibre in the Southern Hemisphere.
There are only three other annual events in the world
with the equivalent status, Badminton and Burghley in the United Kingdom and
Lexington in the United States of America.
